Description
This charming two-and-a-half storey terraced house with 4 rooms and approx. 83 m² of living space was built between 1925 and 1933 in solid construction, destroyed during the war years and rebuilt in solid construction around 1953. It is quietly nestled within the well-known Hufeisen estate and has a well-kept outdoor area with a terrace and a sunny garden.
The Hufeisensiedlung was built according to plans by the prominent classical modernist architect Bruno Taut, the architect and later Berlin city planning officer Martin Wagner and the garden architect Leberecht Migge.
The Hufeisensiedlung is still a current model and a UNESCO award-winning milestone in the reform architecture of social housing in the early 1920s, i.e. from the era of classical modernism. This pioneering concept combines the advantages of communal living with independent living through self-sufficient units with their own gardens as well as large communal green spaces. A combination of social living and individual lifestyle has been achieved here, in a complementary combination of garden art and architecture. All of this in an environment characterised by nature. In other words, exactly what modern people so urgently need again.
